Write Essay :  Write an argumentative essay that responds to this prompt:  Do you think students should be allowed to use laptops during a lecture class?

Use checklist to make sure you have everything you need in the essay

Before you turn in your essay, go through this checklist to make sure you have everything on the list.  Missing items on the list will result in a lower grade.

Introduction:

      Explanation of the issue

The author's name and title and his side of the issue (or just the fact that he is concerned about this issue)

Thesis statement that ends with your opinion

Body:

Either point-by-point or block style--do not mix them.  Refer to page 143

At least 3 arguments to support your opinion

Personal examples to support your opinion

       Opposite point of view

       Rebuttal

       Point-by-Point:

Start each paragraph with an opposing argument--this is the topic sentence so it needs to        include the topic you are writing about.

Rebuttal to that argument (be sure to use a contrasting word)
Give an example from your life to support your argument

You should have three body paragraphs in the above style.  (Total = 5 paragraphs)

Conclusion:

Mention that there are two sides, but do not go into detail of the other side's points
Focus on your opinion--you can summarize your points
